Extended 17th century red brick building serving excellent home-cooked food. Moorings on the Shropshire Union canal are nearby. Real fires feature in the wood beamed main lounge bar and small snug. The pub is a popular stop-off for cyclists, walkers and canal boat travellers in the summer. Cheshire Oaks Retail Park and the Blue Planet Aquarium are nearby. Bus 26 stops outside the pub four times a day in each direction. The pub has an outside patio area with heaters and seating. Dogs are welcome in the smaller public bar. Bats and bumble bees are also in residence. The house beers are brewed by Greene King to the landlady's recipe. These are complemented by two or three regularly changing guest beers, often interesting and/or local. There is a discount on cask on Sundays and the pub is usually open on Bank Holiday Mondays.
