Social Trip to Preston

Thursday 14 November 2024 11:52

Once again Ale Trail Supremo, Craig Papworth, will be leading a branch social trip to visit the pubs in Preston including one of the four CAMRA 2025 POTY finalists The Black Horse Preston,

We shall be travelling on the 11:52 train to Preston changing at Warrington BQ. Journey time is around an hour. By a quirk of the convoluted fares system you can keep the cost down by buying a Off-Peak Day Return to St. Helens Central (there are other fares for this journey but it must be the one valid via Warrington and Wigan) for £8.05 and a Off-Peak Day Return from Wigan to Preston for £4.75 so the total fare is £12.80. These are the fares with a railcard. If you just get a return from Chester to Preston it will cost you £22.70 with a railcard.

Several of the pubs serve cheap(ish) food. There is also the possibility of stopping off at Wigan Central on the way back for those that haven't had enough to drink.

Look forward to seeing you on the train on Thursday
